Advanced Electric Fan Propulsion

ELECTRIC PROPULSION

6MW Triple motor ducted fan powertrain....

Ducted Electric Fan Design

Propulsion systems under development for electric powered aircraft are the high speed ducted fan and the electric jet engine. Also currently under development are future electric propulsion systems.

ELECTRIC ENGINE 3D MODEL
FAN

14 Bladed ducted fan that can spin upto speeds of 10,000 RPM
MOTORS

Each engine has three 6MW Electric motors on a single shaft
DUCTED BODY

Engine body is design to maxamise the flow of air from the fans
MAGNETIC BEARINGS

Magnetic bearings at each end of the shaft and inbetween the motors reduce friction and eliminate the need for lubricants

Electric Motors

High speed ducted electric fan engine consists of a three phase digital electric motor and a single fan housed in the engine nacelle. Electric power is sent in pulses to the motor; the faster the pulses are sent the fast the fan rotates.

Electric Thermal Rocket

Planned future electric propulsion is the Electric Thermal Rocket engine using electric energy to heat a liquid such as LH2 (liquid Hydrogen) to a very high temperature. This liquid expands into a hot gas which is then forced out of a rocket nozzle producing thrust.
